Therapeutic Riding

This is therapy.
Just not the kind that happens in an office.

What Makes This Different

Most equine programs are run by riding instructors or wellness coaches. That's not what this is.

At HorseSpeak, Therapeutic Riding is led by MaryBeth and our team of licensed professional counsellors — each trained in both clinical practice and horsemanship. That combination is genuinely rare in equine-assisted work, and it matters.

It means that whatever surfaces in a session — whatever shifts, whatever feels tender or unexpected — is held by someone qualified to meet it. You're not just spending time with horses. You're working with professionals who understand both the therapeutic process and the language of horses.

That's a different level of care.

What it is

Therapeutic Riding uses the experience of being with — and eventually riding — a horse to support emotional regulation, self-trust, and personal growth.

Horses are honest in a way that's hard to find anywhere else.
They don't respond to what you say. They respond to your nervous system
your breath, your stillness, your presence. When something settles in you, the horse notices. When something is unresolved, they notice that too.

That feedback is quiet, and without judgment.
It can reach places that words don't always find.

Many people leave their first session saying the same thing:
something shifted inside me that I didn't expect.

What Happens in a Session

You arrive. You talk first — with your facilitator, at your pace, about where you are today.

Then you move to the horses.

Some people start on the ground — grooming, breathing, simply being present alongside the animal.

Riding comes when it feels right, not because it's scheduled. Every session follows the person in front of us, not a plan.

Who This Is For

Therapeutic Riding may be a good fit if you:

  • Live with anxiety, or carry the weight of difficult past experiences
  • Are rebuilding confidence after a fall, an injury, or a hard season
  • Feel stuck — and sense that talking alone isn't moving things forward
  • Are neurodivergent and feel more at ease with animals than in traditional settings
  • Don't know exactly what you need yet

You don't have to have it figured out before you come.

One-on-One & Small Group Sessions

We offer both individual and small group sessions — whichever feels right for where you are.

If you're unsure, you're welcome to join a group session first. It's a gentle way to experience the work, without committing to anything more. Many people find that's all they need to know they're in the right place.

SESSION FEES:

  • Individual — First session (45–60 min): $185
  • Individual — Ongoing sessions (45 min): $155
  • Limited prepaid options available
  • Group session fees: contact us for current pricing

WHEN YOU ARE READY

There's no pressure to know what you want before you reach out.

You can start with a conversation — a brief call to ask questions, understand what to expect, or just hear a human voice before deciding. Or you can simply come to a group session and see how it feels.

Either way, we'll meet you where you are.
