Animal-Assisted Counseling

We get it, sitting in a therapy office can be daunting.  You might feel a little nervous at first, not sure what to say or where to even start.  But picture the scenario with a purring cat in your lap, reassured by the unconditionally loving deep brown eyes of a dog as she lays her head on your knee. Or maybe the office isn't for you at all.  Nothing like the company of goats, pigs, and mini sheep in the petting zoon to ease the tension!  Looking for an even more impactful interaction?  Then spend your session with our 1000lb therapists.  Horses are like mirrors to your soul.  They sense and react to your thoughts and feelings.  They offer opportunities to develop new insights and challenge self-limiting beliefs.  They can touch your heart.

Isn't it worth giving it a try?  Maybe now is the time to reach out, to try something different.  Perhaps today is the day you take the step that changes your life.

Need Relationship or  Family Counseling?

Time spent out on the ranch with the horses offers a unique experience. Working together with the horses, communication skills improve, while destructive patterns become recognizable and new ways of relating can be explored. LGBTQ couples are welcome.

Retreats:  Where the pavement ends, your adventure begins!

The Equine Therapy approach is a unique journey that opens up awareness, understanding and lasting change. Horses can be powerful teachers who give us gentle, detailed insights into our life through their willing interaction. Start excelling with Equine-assisted therapy by shifting old perceptions and gaining new insights. Come enjoy a weekend focused on you!  A truly unique, weekend ranch retreat offers a personal growth experience. Learn about yourself in an outdoor classroom with beautiful horses! These gentle mentors are masters at helping you gain valuable insights. All retreats will have a personal growth focus and may or may not involve riding horses depending on the type of retreat.  No horse experience is necessary for any of our events.   Evenings are spent around the campfire sharing insights, laughter, and s'mores. Learn about yourself by challenging yourself in a supportive and caring environment. You deserve this opportunity to unbridle your potential.

Retreats vary in intensity.  Cowgirl University is lighthearted and fun, Cowgirl Spirit adds a deeper level of introspection while still having an adventuresome twist, and the Empowerment Retreats are more intense and don't include riding horses. Have a group of 6 or more? Call us for a custom retreat!  Great for family reunions, team building, or just a unique getaway.

You don’t need any experience with horses. Even if you’ve never been close to a horse before, you will be profoundly touched by our four-legged therapists and supported by caring and capable staff.

Adaptive and Therapeutic Riding Services

Designed to increase confidence, develop communication, and improve relationship skills, therapeutic riding is far more than a riding lesson. This practice is also extremely effective for managing ADHD symptoms, Autism, and TBI. Horses provide immediate feedback to the rider, allowing them to develop and practice skills that transfer to their day-to-day life.

Adaptive riding allows those with disabilities to experience motion and movement while building confidence, core strength and balance. The riding experience takes place in the capable hands of trained sidewalkers to keep them stable and safe.

Youth Leadership Week
Open to boys and girls ages 7-12

Each child will be assigned their very 'own' horse for the duration.  They will be responsible for  feeding, grooming, and yup,  even the stall cleaning of their horse. The riding part of our program focuses on building confidence, developing leadership and practicing respect for animals and each other.  They will learn to handle their horse both from the ground and in the saddle. All levels of riding can be accommodated. Horses are also used for equine assisted growth and learning. These are unique experiences where the kids interact with the horses and each other with the goal of developing positive life skills such as communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork.

Four days of day camp (9-noon) and a final overnight campout!
The away-from-home experience of staying in a bunkhouse with a bunch of their peers contributes to self-esteem, self-confidence, and a whole bunch of giggly memories. Evenings always involve the roasting of marshmallows and age-appropriate games that promote group cohesion, compassion, and positive talk. Our camp counselors are experienced, college-aged, and ideal mentors and role models. The camps' riding and equine assisted growth and learning activities are always facilitated by Executive Director Marybeth Wiefels.

Part of our mission statement is that no child will ever be turned away from camp. Call us and we will help you make it happen.
